What is the Ubiquiti Device Discovery Tool?
The Ubiquiti Device Discovery Tool is a cross-platform discovery utility that locates Ubiquiti devices on the local network. It allows users to connect to these devices and configure them without knowing the IP address. The tool also offers features like showing you MAC addresses. There is a Java discovery tool, but we recommend sticking to the Chrome Extension, which can be downloaded here in the google chrome store.
Benefits of Using the Discovery Tool
There are many benefits to using the Ubiquiti Unifi Device Discovery Tool, some of which include the following:
- Increased efficiency in managing networks with many devices
- Easy access to troubleshooting information & tools
- Discover Ubiquiti devices quickly.
- It will find an Unifi device as well.
How to Use the Ubiquiti Device Discovery Tool Now that we’ve covered some basics, let’s dive into how to use the Ubiquiti Device Discovery Tool.
There are four main sections of the tool: Device Type, Host, MAC, and Firmware. Below, we will go into more detail about each section and what you can do within each one.
Device Type is the Ubiquiti product that was found, such as LM2 for Loco M2. Name is the name you gave the device or the default name if you have not configured it yet. The Host is the correct IP address of the device. MAC is the device’s MAC address. Firmware is the current version of the firmware the device is using.
The most useful feature is the HOST column. It shows you the IP address of the devices, and it is a clickable link that will one in your computer’s default web browser. This is handy for finding your Ubiquiti NanoStation Loco AC units or NanoStation M2 units.
I hope this information was useful.
Update: This tool has been discontinued. 🙁 There is a better tool called WifiMan, which you can find in the Apple Store and Google Play Store
